Some of the stones used in the construction of the klinerys’ cellar were reclaimed from the now demolished Carmelite convent in Dijon. It is said that the spirit of the blessed Elisabeth of Trinity watches over the wine.

In 1963, Denise Merme married Jean Taupenot, winegrower from the village of Saint-Romain, near Beaune. The couple took over the Estate of Armand Merme, hanked down over three generations. Stemming from this union is the passion, dynamism and creativity which has permitted them to earn their current renew and reputation.

Since 1994, the 7th generation, Virginie Taupenot has rejoined her parents. Her previous studies have included a Business School in Paris, followed by a year at the wine school in Beaune, plus a diploma as Oenologist-Technician from the University of Vine and Wine in Dijon. She also experienced winemaking in South Africa and in the United States.

The family has been complete since September 1998, as Romain Taupenot has rejoined the Estate. After, also, a Business School in Paris, many experiences abroad and in France in finance and a part training at the wine school in Beaune.

The dynamism and experience of Jean and Denise, associated with the open spirit and the international flair of Virginie and Romain make an Estate that lives up to its wine: Heart-warming, inviting, generous and vivacious.
