Chateau de la Cree

History

The venerable Château de la Crée estate in Santenay, Burgundy dates back to the 15th Century, when it was owned by Nicolas Rolin, chancellor to Philippe the Good and founder of the Hospices de Beaune. The Domaine of Château de la Crée is located in the Côte de Beaune, in Santenay, and today made of more than 10 hectares with 3 hectares of Chardonnay and 7 hectares of Pinot Noir. The plots, very ideally located, are spread around the most beautiful villages of the “Grands Crus road”: Maranges, Santenay, Volnay, Pommard, Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet, Chassagne-Montrachet.

Biodynamic farming practices are employed in all our vineyards to drive optimal terroir expression, and ensure soil and plant health.

The Evenstads, Owner of the Château de la Crée

By acquiring the Château de la Crée in 2015, Ken and Grace Evenstad founders and Owners of Domaine Serene, which represents 110 hectares of vines in Oregon, in love with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay have realized a long dream: producing and vinifying prestigious Appellation in Burgundy. Thanks to their 25 years’ experience in the production of luxury wines, they have the ambition of introducing the wines of the Château in new markets and of being the ambassadors of the appellation of Santenay.

Since their first vintage in 1990, The Evenstads have produced award winning, world-class wines. Most recently, the Domaine Serene 2010 Evenstad Reserve Pinot Noir and the 2014 Evenstad Reserve Chardonnay were placed in the top 3 Wines of the World by Wine Spectator Magazine - marking the first time both a red and white wine from the same producer have been held in such high esteem by the publication. Additionally, Domaine Serene was awarded top Pinot Noir in the World in 2016 for their Winery Hill Pinot Noir - taking Platinum Best in Show at the Decanter World Wine Awards.

Through their continuous pursuit of quality and innovation the Evenstads have garnered global recognition as an iconic producer of world-class Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. They are applying that knowledge and experience to elevating the wines from the Santenay region.
