CHATEAU DE POMMARD, SINCE 1726Château de Pommard owns the largest private Clos in Burgundy, CLOS MAREY-MONGE, in the heart of Pommard village.
Protected by a stone wall built at the beginning of the 19th century, our Clos MAREY-MONGE is a terroir recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Each year, our winemakers Emmanuel Sala and Eric Pignal produce world-class wines on the most beautiful terroirs of Burgundy, including Premier crus and Grands crus.
Our philosophy is to always maintain a hands-off approach and allow nature to remain in control; we entrust the vintage to do the talking. The seven distinct, but complementary, terroir of Clos Marey-Monge are each hand-harvested, fermented, and aged separately, following a vinification process that employs as little human interference, or influence, as possible. It is only at the last possible moment that we step in and create a balanced blend of the seven terroir. Listening to the vintage’s peculiarities and requirements allows us to use our experience and intuition to select just the right percentages and proportions for the blend. Nothing else. The result is a vintage that always reflects the best of the land and Mother Nature, but is created with our signature style which emphasizes elegance, complexity and length. Scientists call it chemistry, we call it winemaking.
Since 1726, Château de Pommard has been evolving with every vintage. Nowhere is this more evident than in our étiquettes du vin. 2017: A new family, a new wine label. Famille Carabello-Baum have completely rebranded the wine label. Leaving the oyster design behind and choosing an elegant and modern design that echoes the estate’s 21st century philosophy.
