BORDEAUX: DREAM OR REALITY??
Bordeaux, straddling the 45th parallel, the planet’s magic line for the production of the greatest fine wines, is first and foremost a vast French wine producing region, with 10,000 châteaux in 57 appellations and 115,000 hectares of vines.
The name of Bordeaux, however, is famous worldwide thanks to its 250 premium wines generally recognised by a classification. All these major châteaux are located on the finest terroirs of the best appellations: Médoc, Graves and Sauternes on the left bank of the Garonne river, Saint Emilion and Pomerol on the right bank.
The extraordinary wealth of their often-historic past enables them all the more easily to set their sights on the future, more often than not in the long term. Their long-standing traditions combined with state-of-the-art technology means they respect even more and therefore reveal better the grape, the essential basis of all great wines.
Over the last few years, a better control of ripening has made it possible to produce ever better-balanced wines, which as a result are more appealing in their youth.
Bordeaux is without doubt still the world benchmark for fine wines.
