Crossing the hilly zone of Abruzzo, everybody is struck by wide vines whose colors change with the seasons. Passion and tenacity of Abruzzo winemakers has made possible a wine production whose qualities and characteristic deserve every day prestigious awards. Abruzzo and wine, a perfect binomial, as sea and mountains are married on its lands. Abruzzo is a point of union between Center-North and South region of Italy, and represents a perfect example of conjugation of economic development with the respect of the traditions and of the territory.Abruzzo economy and society lived for centuries on a mostly agricultural basis, but recently it has been able to adapt itself and catch up on important goals. Currently, in Abuzzi are cultivated approximately 32,500 hectares of grapes for wine, and the "Doc" wine production is of approximately 600.000 hectoliters per year. The ampelografic basis is constituted approximately half by Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, and the second half by more famous vines as Trebbiano d'Abruzzo, Sangiovese and Malvasia, and also by some extremely interesting native vine: Pecorino, Cococciola, Montonico and Passerina. Abruzzo wines in a short time have obtained a great success with a wider public and more discerning markets. The secret of this success is its intrinsic quality, the dynamism of producers and an excellent quality/price ratio.
