Ornellaia
The Estate of Ornellaia was established by Marchese Lodovico Antinori (who is from Italian famous family, Antinori) in 1981 in Bolgheri area. In the late 1960’s Lodovico visited United States several times as a sales of Antiori run by his older brother, Piero Antinori. Lodovico was influenced by Californian wines very much and met Andre Tcheelischeff, called as « master of Californian Cabernet Sauvignon ». Lodovico invited him to Italy as a consultant oenologist. He learned the potential of Bolgheri and made Ornellaia using bordeaux varieties such as Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. He was inspired by Sassicaia made by his cousin, Nicolo Incisa della Rocchetta with Andre’s advice. He made wines which present terroir of Bolgheri. In 2001, Ornellaia 1998 vintage became No. 1 in « Wine Spectater Top 100 » and was recognized as one of the world leading wines. Second wine of Ornellaia, « La Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia 2011 vintage» were served at the wedding party of George Clooney held at the super luxury hotel, Aman Canal Grande Hotel in Venezia Italy. In 2004, Estate was took over by Frescobaldi who created Luce, one of the best « super tuscan » wines and several great Brunello di Montalcino.
