Vinedos Y Bodegas Munoz

THE REGION:
Noblejas village has won the recognition of a supplier of good red wine made from Tempranillo grapes, the most highly considered variety in Spain since wine made from this grape was first supplied to the court of Phillip V, who had his residence in Aranjuez. Located at DO La Mancha a vast, rolling, flat landscape unrelieved by hills of any note. Its earth is an attractive reddish colour, thanks to the Miocene chalky sediments deposited there. Its continental climate means that temperatures are extreme, falling to as low as -15º in winter and rising to a torrid 45º in summer. Aridity is another of the most important characteristics of this microclimate, as rainfall is low (300-400 mm p.a.) and the entrance of wind-borne humidity is limited. La Mancha is basically a region of dry cultivation, although recent developments have led to the expansion of the number of agricultural operations using drip irrigation. On the other hand, La Mancha can count on some 3,000 hours of sun per annum to gradually toast the region's grapes, thereby guaranteeing a rich harvest each autumn.

Viñedos y Bodegas Muñoz is considered to be one of the best wineries in La Mancha.
A family business, Viñedos y Bodegas Muñoz is located in a part of La Mancha that belongs to the province of Toledo. For three generations, the winery has maintained the same spirit and strategy as in 1940 when Don Blas Muñoz García de la Rosa, the father of the current owner(Bienvenido Muñoz Pollo), started to produce and process wines.
Their characters as a family business and to make quality are the main selling points in the marketing of its wines.

In 1975 Mr. Bienvenido Muñoz took over the management of the winery. He increased the vineyard area and started planting noble grape varieties (Cabernet Sauvignon & Merlot)

They modernized the installations to better the quality and quantity. The will of the winery to adapt to modern time has leaded its wines to be commercialised throughout Europe.

In 1995 the third generation becomes part of the business believing in making quality wines, under the umbrella of “D.O La Mancha” and “Vinos de la Tierra de Castilla”.

THE WINERIES (OLD AND NEW WINERY):

This winery is to be restored, adapting the jars in order to use modern processing technologies. It will have a total production capacity of 15,000 bottles, and will follow painstaking processing methods including manual grape selection.

Currently, it is used as an ageing installation with 200 new French oak casks. A temperature of 13-15ºC and optimum humidity conditions are maintained by natural means the whole year round.
A beautiful place to visit.

THE NEW WINERY:

The winery covers an area of 8000 m2 and is equipped with modern equipment for pressing, fermentation, storing and ageing our wines.
Throughout the wine-making, ageing and bottling process, all our wines are subjected to strict quality control procedures in order to ensure optimum conditions for consumers.
The winery has a production capacity of 4,000,000 litres a year, of which 50% corresponds to reds and rosés and the other 50% to white wines.
Our stainless steel and surfaced concrete tanks provide storage space for 7,000,000 litres.
The bottling line has a capacity for 2,000 bottles/hour and is equipped with the most advanced technology, allowing us to bottle our wines under optimum conditions, without reducing their quality.
Here, the entire ageing process is carried out in 300 American (80%) and French (20%) oak casks with an average age of 6 years.
Only vintages considered to be of superior quality are used for our reserves. These are aged for approximately 18 months in a natural atmosphere which is ideal for their development.

THE MUÑOZ VINEYARDS AND CLIMATE:

Vine-growing is, without doubt, the most important factor in obtaining quality wines. Aware of this, the Muñoz family has a 50 Ha vineyard which produces red grapes of the Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Tempranillo varieties, and 6 Ha of the white Chardonnay variety.

Accordingly, the vineyard is located on a thin layer of low-fertility marl soil. The yield from this soil is low, but the grapes that grow on it provide for extraordinarily concentrated and aromatic wines.
Apart from its own vineyards, the winery controls 300 Ha of vineyards belonging to other proprietors who are monitored and selected for producing quality grapes.

THE CLIMATE:

Together with the properties of the soil, the weather conditions in this area subject the vineyards to extreme climatic conditions, with cold winters and very hot, dry summers. This allows the winery to obtain grapes without resorting to the use of phytosanitary treatments.

07Vintage:The wine is a clear bright, pale gold color. Ripe, fresh, fruity nose with hints of banna and tropical fruit wrapped in subtle oak and vanilla. As the wine develops in the glass it reveals hints of passion fruit, toast and mango fruit. Medium bodied it is a soft, well-rounded, seamless wine with an impressive amount of fruit. Well crafted, elegant supple with all the flavors and aromas lingering on a long and pleasant.JKW04/08
