Wild Paw

What is Wild Paw?
Wild Paw is a celebration of the wines, the wildlife and the wildness of Australia. A paean to the spirit, the diversity and the pioneers of this land. Our wines reflect that spirit. Let’s drink to the wildness of Australia.

Wild Paw Wines
Why celebrate with an inferior French wine than with a premium Australian wine?
Let's start with a Charming Champion Charismatic Chardonnay, full of the luxurious flavours of melon, peach and citrus – it prances and panders to seafood, grilled fish and light meats.
The Macho Mysterious Melodic Merlot’s achingly intense coffee tones sashay with velvet rose petal and red plum zest - it gambols and romps with tomato based dishes and seared beef.
Then comes a Canny Captivating Cavorting Cocky Cuddly Colourful Come-Hither Cabernet with a snout of blackcurrant and violets, effortlessly conquering wild pheasant, duck and steak.
Finally, there is our old friend, the Saucy Sexy Shocking Sublime Stylish Shiraz, with a savage blend of dark forest fruit and a helping of spice, mocha and tobacco. This Shy sort (we think not!) simply pampers spicy peppery dishes, stews and strong cheeses.

Wild Paw Winemakers
Let’s drink to the pioneers and heroes of Australian winemaking. Over the last twenty years their knowledge and passion has been exported all over the world, helping to redefine the art of making wine. Men like Wild Paw winemaker Calum Peace, Brisbane Lions fan, and winemaker extraordinaire. Or Anthony Fedele, who brought his winemaking passion with him from his homeland, Italy.

Wild Paw Land
Wild Paw is a sense of place. Our wines are made down by the Murray River, a place of timelessness. Here, old paddleboats ply the waters, and forests, historic towns, wildlife, olive groves and vineyards populate the banks. Here we like to party and dance till dawn, love to throw on an old tee-shirt and get down and dirty at the local hoedown or barbie. Wild Paw people love the rough spirit of rock ‘n roll and the soft beauty of poetry in equal measure. Wild Paw-ers are just that little bit different.

Wild Paw Friends
Wild Paw is a celebration of the unique and diverse wildlife of Australia, and especially the 140 species of marsupials who are always guaranteed to provoke a sense of wonder.
Aussie marsupials range in size from tiny shrew-like creatures weighing in at 5 grams to large kangaroos. They all have one thing in common: the marsupium, or pouch, in which they carry and nurse their young. This is because marsupials have very short gestation periods (the time the young spend in the mother's tummy). The largest marsupial, the Red Kangaroo, has a 30 day gestation period and the single baby weighs only 1 gram (.035 ounces) when it is born. The baby kangaroo, called a joey, spends about 235 days in the mother's pouch.
Other marsupials include: Koala, Wombats, Possums (allegedly the first marsupial to be known in Europe), Numbats, Bandicoots, Quokka, Quoll and the Marsupial mole.Wild Paw is helping to save the world in our own small way. We donate..... is a charity that supports Australian wildlife.

OUR WINES

THE WINEMAKERS
The Arnold Schwarzanegger and Danny DeVito of the wine trade - those are our winemakers!
Let Cathryn Peace tell the story: "Calum was born 9th November 1989. He was a big baby who has grown into a big man. He is 6ft 7 and his weight is off the chart! He would of made a good rugby player.
"He is our eldest born and as soon as he could walk he was following his father around through the vineyard and winery."

Calum works in the winery and the vineyard, but his passion is more in the vineyard. "You can coach and coax the grapes in the winery, but really you need to start with the best raw materials," he says. Calum also grows pumpkins, onion, corn and other grain crops.

Calum's inseparable right hand man is Anthony Fedele, the vineyard manager - all 5ft 5 of him (hence the reference to the movie Twins!)

Anthony was born in Calabria, Italy, and migrated as a young boy to the Swan Hill region. The presence of so many Italians in the regional has led to a very Italian influence when it comes to food and wine, with, for instance, a great tradition of killing pigs to make salami. Italian expats living in Melbourne still go the vineyards and pick the ends of the row, where the harvester may of missed, to make their own brews.

OUR WINE REGIONS

Our red wines are made down by the Murray River, a place of timelessness.

Calum's winery is next to a dam occupied by a noisy tribe of geese. There’s a BBQ, and a wood-fired pizza oven – and his mum’s coffee is famous throughout the region.
We like to think the Wild Paw reds display all of the bold, rich characteristics of this beautiful riverbank home.
